The #413reads initiative is in full force and to date we have named four winners in our monthly drawing for a $50 Pride gas card for those who shared a photo or a selfie reading to a child using #413reads.
Luz Zenaida Lopez, the Central & Western Massachusetts Organizing Manager for Stand for Children and who was born and raised in Springfield, is an advocate for the initiative, knowing that early literacy puts children on the right path to graduating from high school. Stand for Children is a nonprofit with the goal of ensuring that all children, regardless of their background, graduate from high school prepared for, and with access to, a college education. Luz shares a photo of her reading to her four-month-old son along with a post as a way of drawing attention to the #413reads campaign. Here's what Luz has to say:
#413reads Reading to my little miracle from God.
(POST YOUR PIC READING TO A CHILD AND WIN)
At 4 months old my baby already loves attention. He loves when I read to him. Sometimes he stares at me or at the book or sometimes his eyes wander around the room. Either way I know he is listening and like a sponge he is using all of his senses to receive the new information...There are very few moments I remember from my childhood. Some of my few great memories are those spent with my mother, brother and sister at the library. Those were the very few times we could be individuals and entrepreneurs and make decisions on what we were interested in. Moments like those made me believe I could accomplish anything I put my mind to. I still believe that and it is my responsibility to ensure my son is aware that he can accomplish anything he puts his mind to. As a new mom, I'm shocked at how much work it is to be a parent. What a blessing but, WOW, I could have never imagined. I love my son and might even be brave enough to have another one someday.
READ TO YOUR KIDS... 20 MINUTES OF YOUR DAY CAN CREATE A GENERATION OF CONFIDENT CHILDREN...THAT ARE READY TO SUCCEED.
To participate, just post a photo or a selfie of yourself or anyone reading to a child via Twitter, Instagram or Facebook AND INCLUDE #413reads in the post. Once a month, a $50 Pride gas card is awarded to someone who has posted a photo. It could be you! Click here to see the photos of past winners.
